The role of sight in our lives
Sight –
- the power or faculty of seeing; perception of objects by use of the eyes; vision.
- mental perception or regard; judgment.
Sometimes in life we take certain things for granted, basic everyday things. You for instance can most likely walk where you need to go when you need to, I currently do not have that luxury. At least I don’t for the next 24 days or so, you see I broke my ankle and tore a ligament on April 15th of this year. Typically you don’t realize how much you rely on something until you lose it.
We develop a sort of faith in certain things. For instance you believe that when you go to the grocery store they will have food. You believe that when you press on the brake pedal in your car it will stop. It’s very important that through the course of our lives we don’t place our faith in the wrong places. If you place your faith in something that brings you happiness and not joy, it will crush you in the end. People often mistake happiness for joy. You see happiness is pleasure and/or contentment that is dependent on your current life situation/ circumstances. Joy, however, is pleasure in spite of everything that is happening around you.
There are multiple kinds of sight as you can see above. There is physical sight and spiritual sight. It’s important that you don’t get caught up in the day to day struggles of life. Physical sight only allows you to see from a close perspective, you are essentially walking around within a forest. I don’t know how many of you have hiked through a forest, but let me tell you, it’s very easy to get lost. You need a higher perspective in order to get from point A to point B. In the forest we use a map and compass to obtain that vantage point and orient ourselves accordingly. In life there is no map, no definite North or South, no landmarks to go by. To make it worse no one is traveling between the exact same points. So even if someone did have a map, it wouldn’t help you.
To obtain that higher perspective needed to traverse this unforgiving yet fulfilling terrain known as life, I rely on my faith in Jesus Christ to guide and direct me. Yeah you knew where I was going with this. If you did that’s great because I didn’t, haha. I typically begin writing something based on a word, or verse, etc. without any real direction as to the overall purpose. But I believe that everything has a purpose. I find that even in those moments when I don’t know what to do I can find peace in knowing that somehow, everything is going to work together for my good according to Romans 8:28.
Here’s a little quote that came to me a while back:
‘You will not find happiness walking through life with blinders on. You must open your eyes and seek those things which are hidden. Because the truly worthwhile things in life must be pursued and discovered. Anything that comes easy is not worth the effort.”
– Greg
So I guess the point of this post is simply to say this, place your faith in the right things, don’t mistake happiness for joy, and rely on God for your direction in life. Because without that higher perspective we will simply wander around aimlessly never accomplishing anything truly meaningful. Live every day of your life to the fullest. Leave a legacy for your children’s children. Live with purpose.
Ok that’s all I have. Until next time, this is Greg, over and out.
Very well said. You always amaze me in your ability to put your thoughts into words. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you!
