Yosemite 2017 Part 1 of 2 – Journal Time

September 18, 2018 by Greg

Welcome back everyone.

This is the first entry in a new series called Journal Time!  As the name implies I will be copying some of my journal entries line by line and posting them on the site (minus names etc).  Sometimes they are deep, sometimes they are funny.  But they are always real.  It could be anything from something like my last post on sight, to today’s post about a family road trip.  So if you want a look at the inner workings of my mind, stay tuned!

Anyways, this last winter was a great one for Southern, CA.  We received significantly more rain than we needed and everything was super green.  So naturally my family decided to visit the most beautiful valley in the state, Yosemite.  I took the time to keep a journal on this trip so I will literally be copying it verbatim.  I’m even going to strikethrough words that I crossed out in the journal to add to the realism.  I will probably split this into one or two posts but I’m not entirely sure yet.  Once again I’m going to basically be winging it, haha.  Oh and of course if I link to anything or post pictures, that was obviously not originally in my journal.  Ok so here goes the first entry:

Dear Journal,

Our Yosemite road trip starts in the morning, so I really don’t have time to write.  Talk to you tomorrow!

Sincerely,

Greg

Dear Journal,

Well we finally arrived at our cabin…  after 11 hours in the car.  Overall the day was fun but uneventful.  We drove almost four hundred miles, ate food and listened to music.  The cabin is awesome!  Well that’s all I have for now, I’ll give you an update tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Greg

Dear Journal,

Well we made it into the park.  Man is it beautiful!  The river is flowing unbelievably strong.  Part of the road was washed out, well actually it looked like a landslide took it out.  We’ve made our way to Glacier Point, it’s about 3 PM.  On the way up we saw tunnel view and it was simply breathtaking.  My Dad and brother went to see the view here at the point.  With my ankle still messed up it’s just too far for me to hobble right now.  That’s it for the moment, more updates to come!

The river was flowing fast.

11:32 PM

The day has finally come to an end.  Here’s a recap.  We drove down from Glacier Point.  Well actually let me back up a little bit.  When they finally got back to the car they came bearing gifts.  Specifically food and drink.  Even more specifically, saltines and water.

We got situated and then proceeded down the mountain.  After a number of miles we arrived at Bridal Veil Falls.  It’s absolutely amazing!  The water is so powerful it sounds like thunder as it falls.  I hiked as far as I could without getting my cast wet.  Somehow I’m going to print my best pictures out and place them in here.  Anyways we hiked around and took in God’s glorious creation.  After the falls the water split into roughly three forks.  Each one had a stunningly beautiful stone rock bridge spanning it.  It was also incredible because you could feel the mist from the falls from way back on the walking trail.

As the sign says… Trail to Vista Point.

After stopping to take many pictures we piled back into the car.  On our way back to camp we came across a meadow that looks so scerine serene th that it’s hard to believe that it’s real.  It had a bridge before it.  The water was moving but it was as smooth as glass.  I took a ton of pictures at this spot.

I love the reflection from this tree.

As we continued on the road we decided to stop at another lookout where the rapids passed.  After taking a closer look, we noticed that this particular spot used to be a grass covered flowery meadow.  At least it was 15 years ago.  We made it out of the park and proceeded into Mariposa for dinner.  The Happy Burger Diner was our restaurant of choice.  My parents said that they remembered eating there before.  I ate a pastrami burger and it was incredible.

Used to be a meadow.
Awesome food.

After that we stopped at Rite-Aid for some odds and ends.  My brother and I just watched a bunch of random YouTube videos while my parents shopped.  Then we came back to the cabin and my brother and I played Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in tabletop mode on his Switch.  That’s pretty much it for today.  I’ll talk to you tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Greg

Well this actually turned into quite a long post with the images included.  So I will post the rest of the entries next week.  Until then this is Greg, over and out.
